As the new school year begins for children and grandchildren, are you ready for a new challenge for yourself?  Or are you looking for an hour of calm in your busy schedule?

The Parish offers two classes each week in the ancient Chinese practices of tai chi and qigong.  The classes are on Tuesday evenings, 7-8 p.m., and Wednesday afternoons, 3-4 p.m.  The classes are identical; students can choose whichever day suits their schedule.

Tai chi is often referred to as “mind/body exercise.”  Its slow, gentle movements are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.  It has been found beneficial for people with arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes and other conditions.  The “mind” component of tai chi practice promotes calm and mental balance.  Qigong practices are useful for enhancing the flow of qi, the body’s energy.  Both practices are fun and interesting social activities.

Certified instructor Pam Martin of Wynantskill has been teaching for over five years.  Newcomers are welcome to the class anytime.  Be sure to wear flat shoes or sneakers and loose-fitting clothing.  Questions?  Call Pam at 701-4628.
